“Jump start” classes
Mt. Helix Academy’s Middle School Summer Program is the intelligent choice for motivated middle school students who want to get a “jump start” on next school year. Middle School Summer Classes “jump start” classes in mathematics and language arts are designed for students who just completed 5th, 6th, or 7th grade and who want to be prepared for next year’s classes.

“Firm up” classes
Mt. Helix Academy’s Middle School Summer Program also provides important review classes for those middle school students who struggled some last school year. “Firm up” classes are designed for students who just completed 6th, 7th, or 8th grade and who will benefit from a review of material taught during the year.

Language Arts Classes
All classes are based on the relevant California Language Arts Standards for the grade level. Computers will be provided by Mt. Helix Academy as necessary to facilitate student achievement in the classes.

Language Arts “Jump-Start”
6th Grade–for students entering 6th Grade in fall 2010. Students will explore various literature genres and they will learn to improve expository paragraphs and essays.

7th Grade–for students entering 7th Grade in fall 2010. Students will explore various literature genres and they will learn to improve expository paragraphs and essays.

8th Grade–for students entering 8th Grade in fall 2010. Students will explore various literature genres and they will learn to improve expository paragraphs and essays.Language Arts

Language Arts “Firm-Up”
6th Grade Language Arts Review–for students who completed Grade 6 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm up reading and writing skills, including reading fluency, reading comprehension, and expository writing.

7th Grade Language Arts Review–for students who completed Grade 7 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm up reading and writing skills, including reading fluency, reading comprehension, and expository writing.

8th Grade Language Arts Review–for students who completed Grade 8 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm up reading and writing skills, including reading fluency, reading comprehension, and expository writing.

Mathematics Classes
All classes are based on the relevant California Mathematics Standards for the grade level. All students will work on math facts fluency and other areas of weakness determined by an initial assessment. Computers will be provided by Mt. Helix Academy.

Mathematics “Jump-Start”
6th Grade “Get Ahead” Mathematics–for students entering 6th Grade in fall 2010. Students will be taught operations involving fractions and decimals and signed numbers.

7th Grade “Jump-Start” Mathematics–for students entering 7th Grade in fall 2010. Students will be taught operations involving rational numbers and a review of operations involving fractions and decimals.

8th Grade “Jump-Start” Mathematics–for students entering 8th Grade in fall 2010. Students will begin their study of Algebra.

Mathematics “Firm up”
6th Grade Mathematics Review–for students who completed Grade 6 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm operations involving fractions and decimals and signed numbers.

7th Grade Mathematics Review–for students who completed Grade 7 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm operations involving fractions and decimals and signed numbers.

8th Grade Mathematics Review–for students who completed Grade 8 in 2010 and will benefit from review. Students will firm operations involving fractions and decimals and signed numbers.

Dates for Mt. Helix Academy’s Middle School Summer Program:
5 week program-June 21-July 23 (No classes meeting on July 5th)

Each class meets for an intensive 2-hour block

Fees:
Cost per class: $750.00 –A non-refundable deposit of 375.00 is due on May 1, which will be credited to your account. The remaining fee is due and payable on the first day of the Middle School Summer Program, which is June 21.
