5th Annual Alumni Breakfast a Fun Feast

On Tuesday, June 1st, the Urban Skills Center and COOK Education Center celebrated our 5th Annual Alumni Breakfast. Twenty-eight alumni from the class of 1993 to 2009 connected with us either at the breakfast or by phone to share their achievements and life experiences. Six alumni gave brief speeches about their work, education, and leisure experiences as well as advice for our current students. The Institute for Effective Education (TIEE) has recently obtained I-17 status enabling it to enroll foreign students in its COOK Education Center. After a comprehensive review by the U.S. Departments of Justice and Immigration and Naturalization, TIEE was given the ability to grant foreign student status (I-20) to eligible students. The Institute for Effective Education’s (TIEE’s) family of schools were given site visits by two review teams in spring, 2009. The Down Syndrome Association again sponsored their annual San Diego Buddy Walk at the Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park where TIEE COOK Program Coordinators Carol Nielsen and Jen Swope staffed our booth from 8:30 to noon. On November 7, from 7:30 to 2:30, the first annual San Diego Fiesta Educativa Conference was held at Southwestern College.
